As the weather gets chilly, people spend more time indoors and online. Add in the stress of the holidays, and you’ve got fans trawling through cam sites seeking escape and a dopamine rush. That makes November through January a definite “go time” for online creators.
The best way to take advantage of this opportunity is by creating streams that feel festive and fun, so here are some tips to help make your holiday season joyous — and profitable.
If you share your own fun, festive traditions within your fan community, and your livestreams help people get through the holidays with laughs and good vibes.
All the Trimmings
The holidays offer a chance to lean into the “community” side of your fan base even more than usual. In my room, we still talk fitness and movies like we would at any other time, but I also try to add that “extra” seasonal touch. I want it to feel like an online “home” where everyone feels welcome.
I cook Thanksgiving dinner on cam. I bake cookies. I put up lights and my tree in my studio, and I keep those things in the background throughout the festive season because it naturally sets the mood. Consider what your own unique background and traditions are, and share those. Do you have some obscure recipe or a favorite snack you only make at the holidays? Fans love that — even if your attempt at baking involves pre-made cookie dough.
I also like to wrap gifts from my wish list, or even gifts that I bought for myself, and set them under the tree. Then I unwrap when I make tip goals. Additionally, I buy those large holiday confetti poppers and use them to celebrate tip goals or shout out fans.
You don’t need to go overboard with holiday outfits — unless cosplay is your brand — but a cute Santa hat or a reindeer headband never hurt anyone. A cute sweater and knee socks can help make “cozy-sexy” a thing, or simply break out your hottest red lingerie, if that’s more your vibe.
One caveat: Most people are just as happy not to hear Christmas music. We all get enough of that just from going to the store.
Keeping the Holiday Blues at Bay
Of course, the holidays can also be complicated for many people. It’s a time of year that often stirs up memories and emotions, both good and bad. I try to bear this in mind throughout the season, and fold in an extra layer of “warmth” when I’m online, so fans know my room is a space where they can be welcomed and included without judgment. You never know when providing a listening ear or a sexy distraction will be just the thing a fan needs — and providing it could lead to unexpected generosity.
Even as you show compassion and understanding to others this time of year, be sure to show some to yourself as well. We all know that being an online creator brings its own unique challenges, so I cannot stress enough the importance of maintaining a healthy routine, especially if you plan to be online more during the holiday season.
If you find yourself feeling drained after hearing someone’s sad story — it happens! — don’t ruminate. Instead, hit the gym when you log off, or go do something enjoyable to help restore your equilibrium. Supporting others is commendable, but you also need to make sure you’re on steady emotional footing before you expend that kind of energy. If you struggle with loneliness during this time of year, don’t be afraid to reach out to fellow creators who “get it.” It can be a major relief to have industry friends who understand what we all deal with during the holidays.
Finally, don’t feel like you need to be online on Christmas Day or New Years Day. You can always stream the day before, the day after or earlier in the day, ahead of your own real-life social events. Just be sure to let your fans know when they can catch your stream — and then go do you.
Sharing the Holiday Spirit — Year-Round
People tend to remember how someone made them feel. If you share your own fun, festive traditions within your fan community, and your livestreams help people get through the holidays with laughs and good vibes, it will help you build a thriving cam room community and make a difference in your bottom line.
